What is yoga?
Put simply yoga is a practice that consists of physical postures or poses and meditation. A yoga class possesses many health benefits for both the mind and body.
Is yoga just stretching?
Stretching is certainly involved in yoga, but yoga is really much more. It’s about creating a balance in the body by developing strength and flexibility. Mental health benefits can also be achieved through the practice especially in the meditation session that is included at the end of each class.
Can I do yoga even though I’m not flexible?
Don’t avoid yoga just because you think you aren’t flexible. In fact if you have tight muscles yoga is the best thing to do to help loosen them up. Tone & Tan’s Beginner yoga classes are well suited for people with less flexibility as we move slowly though each posture and different options are always offered. Yoga isn’t about showing off how flexible you are, but to become more flexible over time and enjoy its other health benefits
Is yoga a religion?
No. Yoga can be a spiritual practice, but it’s not a religion. This is because yoga doesn’t incorporate worshiping a god. Tone & Tan focuses completely on the mental and physical benefits that yoga brings and will never refer to spiritual or religious aspects during a practice.
Can yoga improve my sex life?
Yoga counteracts stress, fatigue, and poor self-image, all of which can suppress your libido. You’ll also benefit from increasing your physical fitness, particularly strength, flexibility, and muscle control.
Will doing yoga make me sore?
It’s not uncommon to have sore muscles after doing yoga especially if this is your first class. Even if you are in good physical shape yoga can cause soreness because you use muscles that often get neglected. If you do feel sore a hot bath can help and do some light stretches. Regular yoga practice will reduce soreness and improve muscle.
Will doing yoga help me lose weight?
Yes. Yoga can assist in weight loss as it helps tone and strengthen your muscles. It will also help you feel better about your body, reduce stress and improve mental and physical well-being. I recommend combining yoga with personal training so that you can quickly and effectively achieve your weight loss goals.
Can men do yoga?
Yes of course they can. In fact, yoga was originally practiced only by men. Since men have practiced yoga for so many years many of the poses make more sense in a man’s body as some require a lot of upper body strength, which women can lack at first. Tone & Tan encourages participation by both men and women and believes that under no circumstance should men be excluded from yoga and the enormous health benefits that yoga offers.
Why is my yoga mat slipery?
Yoga mats can be slippery when they are new or if you have sweaty palms. If you have just bought your mat it just needs to be worn down. The only way you can do this is with regular practice,
It’s not working.
Learning yoga may be confusing and difficult at first and it may take around 6 lessons before you begin to feel the positive effects of yoga. You just have to keep at it and not give up as the rewards are great.
